Denim for Change
A Sustainable Fashion Initiative of the Museum of Style
A Program of Sizzle Arts Foundation
Denim for Change is the flagship sustainability initiative of the Museum of Style, dedicated to reducing textile waste, advancing circular fashion, and transforming discarded denim into documented cultural works.
Denim is one of the most globally worn fabrics—and one of the most environmentally intensive to produce. From water consumption to chemical processing, its impact is significant.
Denim for Change reframes denim not as waste, but as material memory.
Mission
Denim for Change mobilizes communities, designers, and youth to reclaim unwanted denim garments and reimagine them as sustainable fashion artifacts.
The program bridges environmental responsibility, creative innovation, and institutional preservation.
Why Denim?
Denim is:
• Universally worn
• Culturally symbolic
• Durable and reusable
• Environmentally resource-intensive
• Present across generations and communities
By focusing on denim, the Museum addresses a fabric that intersects identity, labor history, youth culture, and sustainability.
Program Components
Community Denim Drive
The Museum organizes public denim collection initiatives in partnership with Sizzle Arts Foundation and affiliated programming.
Participants are invited to donate:
• Jeans
• Jackets
• Skirts
• Shirts
• Denim scraps
Donated materials are redirected from landfills and integrated into creative design programs.
Designer Upcycle Challenge
Selected designers transform donated denim into new works of art.
These garments may:
• Be presented during Sizzle Arts NYFW
